(TTH Portal) - On December 29, 2024, Thua Thien Hue solemnly organized a ceremony to announce the resolution of the National Assembly on the establishment of Hue city as a centrally governed city and the resolution on the rearrangement of district- and commune-level administrative unis in Hue city. The Politburo member, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man attended the ceremony.

From January 1, 2025, Hue will join Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Hai Phong, Danang and Can Tho city to be the 6th centrally governed city in Vietnam. The fact that Hue becomes a centrally governed city is not only the pride, but also the expectation of leaders and locals. This opens a new chapter for the history-rich and culture-rich locality, the land of talented people. As the first heritage and culture city in Vietnam, Hue city now enters a new chapter. It is an important foundation which encourages Hue to uphold its history and revolution; become a smart heritage and culture-rich city; continue to exploit is potentials and advantages for sustainable development; redefine the role and position as a regional and country-wide center for culture, tourism, health care, education, training, science and technology.
Throughout the history, Hue city has always held an essential role and position. It is the gate leading to East - West economic corridor; one of the major center for culture, tourism, education, training and health; a key locality in national defense and security across the country. Hue is the land of civilization and rich culture. It is the only place in Vietnam and the South East Asia to be home to 8 UNESCO-recognized heritages. This is a decisive factor which allows Hue to become the first centrally governed and heritage city.
