Unlike previous seasons, foreign art troupes and traditional performances were performed at the opening and closing ceremony of Hue Festival 2008. In addition to key programs such as the coronation ceremony of Emperor Quang Trung on Ban Mountain, Nam Giao offering ceremony, Aodai show, "Kham pha huyen thoai Song Huong" program and "Hue Citadel by night" program, many activities were held on the sideline such as boat racing, kite flying, lion dance, "Hanh trinh noi dai chuyen co tich" festival, lantern parade, human chess, calligraphy, martial art performance, street music, installation art, "Huong xua lang co", "Cho que ngay hoi", "Thuan An Bien goi", etc.

Hue Festival 2008 was the first season to attract a large number of traditional and contemporary art troupes and sculptors from 27 countries all over the world. The number of visitors in Hue Festival 2008 was twice as many as that in 2006. In detail, there were 160.000 turns of visitor including 30.000 foreigners and 120.000 domestic visitors.

Hue Festival 2008 was a typical cultural and tourism festival which represented national identity and Hue's culture, contributing to promoting international exchange, socio-economic development, and tourism. Based on previous Festival seasons, Hue Festival 2008 showed enhanced quality and professionalism. This made Thua Thien Hue province deserve to be the center for culture and tourism as well as the Festival city of Vietnam.
