Phu Vang has the total area of 235,31 km2, population of 117.428 habitants, 13 communes and 1 townlet (according to Thua Thien Hue Statistical Yearbook 2023). The district borders with Huong Thuy town, Hue city, Phu Loc district and the East Sea. National road 49A, 49B, province-level roads, namely 10A, 10B, 10C, etc formed an efficient transportation system.

Phu Vang is located in a strategic position of Hue city. It has 35 kilometer-long coastline and Thuan An sea gate. Beaches such as Phu Thuan, Vinh Thanh, Phu Dien are great potential for developing tourism, services and marine economy.

Besides, the district is home to many lagoons (Sam, Chuon, Thanh Lam, Ha Trung, and Thuy Tu) in Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system. The total area of local water surface is over 6.800 hectares, facilitating fishing and aquaculture. In addition, a large reserve of high quality Titanium is found in Phu Dien, Vinh Xuan, Vinh Thanh and Vinh An commune.

Local traditional and spiritual cultural diversity is shown through festivals such as the fish worshiping ceremony (Vinh An commune). The district is also home to many revolutionary historic relics.

In an attempt to develop a local dynamic economy taking an important role in the province, Phu Vang district has promoted its potential and focused on services - industry, handicraft industry - agriculture. Of all, fields including services, tourism, agriculture and fishery are expected to sustainably and effectively develop on the basis of local sea and lagoon.

Based on its natural strengths, Phu Vang has unceasingly promoted tourism, services, trade, fishing, aquaculture and seafood processing. Tourism and services have been expanded both in size and quality, attracting economic sectors. Many tourism sites  (Ana Mandara, Beach bar) and beaches (Phu Thuan, Phu Dien and Vinh Thanh) have been invested and contributed to local tourism.

In recent years, the district witnessed encouraging results in economic growth, economic restructuring, trade, services, new rural development, urban development and living standard improvement. Phu Da industrial zone attracted 7 enterprises while Thuan An industrial zone cluster was recently established with detail planning. This 14,5 hectare project aims to attract investors investing in constructing infrastructure. Other major projects are being implemented such as Mai market - Tan My, Phu My - Thuan An and My An hot springs resort.

It is hoped that Phu Vang district will soon fully develop its natural potential, contributing to province's socio-economic development.
